Scrap Car Schemes Cement Asian Manufacturers in Britain
Asian manufacturers have cashed in on the rising popularity of scrap car culture in Britain with sales of South Korean vehicles all up by more than 50%.
Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have revealed that sales in Hyundai is up by more than 200% on sales before the scrappage scheme. Kia’s have risen by more then 60% also, making Asian manufacturers the biggest selling in the UK.
British manufacturers such as Mini, Jaguar and Land Rover have seen less success as a result of the scheme with down by 12%, 31% and 10% respectively.
Since the end of the scheme scrapping cars has become a popular way of getting rid of old vehicles that are not fit for the road and also to raise money to buy a new one.
