Mitsubishi Scrap Car
Thieves Target Mitsubishi For Scrap
Police have revealed that a growing trend amongst thieves is to steal the catalytic convertors from Mitsubishi vehicles.
The booming scrap car market has lead to the part fetching up to £200 when sold on, the device is typically made up of valuable metals platinum, palladium or rhodium which act as the catalyst when reducing the pollution in exhaust fumes.
The convertor which is around 10-18inches long can be removed from the under carriage of the car in seconds using a battery powered saw.
The trend appears to have started in America with insurance companies reporting at least one theft a day involving catalytic convertors.
